Lifting Each Other Up: The Power of Women Supporting Women

There’s something truly special about women supporting women. Whether it’s through mentorship, friendship, or simply offering a listening ear, we have the ability to build each other up in ways that can change lives. We aren’t meant to walk this journey alone—God designed us for community, to learn from one another, to encourage one another, and to grow together.

One of the most beautiful ways we can do this is through mentorship. Older women have so much wisdom and experience to share, and younger women bring fresh perspectives, energy, and new insights. It’s a two-way street—when we intentionally pour into one another, we all benefit.

Finding My Mentor: A Night That Changed Everything

I’ll be honest—I wasn’t exactly excited about attending a women’s night at my church. It was designed like speed dating, but instead of finding a romantic partner, we were there to find a mentor. The mentors sat in place while the mentees (myself and other younger women) rotated, spending just a few minutes chatting with each one. It felt a little awkward at first, but by the end of the night, I found someone I truly connected with—her name was Lynn.

After the event, we let the coordinator know who we felt a connection with, and if it was mutual, a mentor-mentee relationship was formed. Thankfully, Lynn and I both felt that spark, and from that moment on, she became an incredible source of support in my faith journey.

Lynn and I didn’t just have a mentor-mentee relationship—we became true friends. We read books together, discussed life, and learned so much from each other. It wasn’t a one-sided relationship where she just gave advice and I just listened. We both grew, encouraged one another, and deepened our faith in ways I never expected.

Even though Lynn eventually had to move to another state, our connection didn’t end. We still keep in touch, and I know that no matter what, I can reach out to her at any time, for any reason. That’s the power of true, godly mentorship—it’s not just about guidance; it’s about relationship.

Ways Women Can Support Each Other

1. Older Women Mentoring Younger Women

Titus 2:3-5 encourages older women to teach and guide younger women in faith and life. If you’ve been walking with Jesus for a while, you have wisdom and experiences that a younger woman could deeply benefit from. Whether it’s through a structured mentorship program or just naturally investing in someone’s life, your encouragement and insight can make a huge impact.

2. Younger Women Encouraging Older Women

Mentorship isn’t just one-sided! Younger women can offer fresh perspectives, new ways of thinking, and encouragement to older women. We all have something to give. It could be showing a mentor how to use a new technology, sharing a recent spiritual insight, or simply being a reminder that their wisdom is valuable.

3. Praying for One Another

Prayer is one of the most powerful ways to support each other. Whether it’s a quick text saying, “I’m praying for you today,” or a deep prayer session together, lifting each other up spiritually strengthens the bond between women and reminds us we are never alone.

4. Being a Safe Space

Life is hard, and sometimes we just need someone who will listen without judgment. Be that person for another woman. Whether she’s struggling with motherhood, marriage, work, or faith, knowing she has a friend who will listen can make all the difference.

5. Celebrating Each Other

We live in a culture that often pits women against each other. Instead of competing, let’s cheer each other on! Celebrate a friend’s new job, encourage a fellow mom who is doing her best, and remind the women in your life that they are loved, seen, and valued.

The Call to Lift Each Other Up

In a world that can sometimes feel isolating, we have the beautiful opportunity to create spaces of love, support, and encouragement. Whether through mentorship, friendship, or simply being present for one another, we can reflect God’s love in the way we lift each other up.

If you’ve ever thought about finding a mentor or becoming one, I encourage you to take that step. You never know how much your life—and someone else’s—could change because of it.

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." – 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Let’s be women who build each other up, who support each other in every season, and who walk through life together in faith, love, and grace. 💛
